SITSEBE SAMHLEKAZI FALL TO ZIMBABWE IN COSAFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Sitsebe SaMhlekazi began their Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship 2025 campaign with a 0-2 defeat to Zimbabwe in their first Group B match on 19 February in Polokwane, South Africa.
The team started brightly, playing with confidence and purpose in the opening exchanges. It was in the 37th minute when Zimbabwe broke the deadlock by scoring the first goal of the match via the header of Praynance Zvawada, who capitalized on a precise cross from Christabel Katona.
Both teams went for the half-time break with Zimbabwe leading by the solitary goal. Despite a determined effort to cancel the Zimbabwe lead, Eswatini failed to locate the back of the net. Rutend Makore doubled Zimbabwe’s lead in the 54th minute after another defensive blunder by the Eswatini defense.
Head Coach Bongani Makhukhula reflected on the performance, acknowledging the challenge but highlighting areas of progress. “I’m proud of the girls the way they exerted themselves coming up with such a performance under the scorching sun, I feel I cannot nail them for the performance. They did very well,” Makhukhula said.
Eswatini will face Botswana in their second match of Group B on Sunday ,22 February 2025 at Seshego Stadium. Kick -off is @12:00 pm.
