UBOMBO SUGAR FC’S GCINA NDWANDWE WINS BIG
Mr. Gcina Ndwandwe of Ubombo Sugar FC has emerged as one of the two winners from the COSAFA region in the prestigious FIFA Club Professionalisation and Management Programme.
Following an intensive programme that featured both online and onsite sessions held in February 2026 at Sibane Sami Hotel, participants from clubs under the Premier League of Eswatini and the Women’s Football League were tasked with developing comprehensive strategic plans for their respective clubs.
FIFA announced that the two best strategic plans from the COSAFA region would earn their authors an all-expenses-paid trip to the FIFA World Cup 2026. Mr. Ndwandwe’s outstanding strategic plan for Ubombo Sugar FC secured him this prestigious opportunity. The other winner is from Namibia.
Present during the presentation of the award were Eswatini Football Association President Peter Simelane, Premier League of Eswatini Chairperson Polycarp Dlamini, and EFA General Secretary Frederick Mngomezulu, among other football administrators.
EFA President Peter Simelane congratulated the winner and his club, describing the achievement as a sign of Eswatini’s progress in football administration. He also assured the EFA’s support in facilitating the necessary documentation for the trip.
“The EFA congratulates Mr. Gcina Ndwandwe for this milestone, which is an indication that Eswatini is making strides in football administration,” said Simelane.
PLE Chairperson Polycarp Dlamini thanked FIFA and the EFA for the initiative and applauded Ubombo Sugar FC in as far as Ndwandwe’s achievement is concerned.
“As PLE, we are very proud of your achievement, which also enhances the PLE brand. This is a major accomplishment because you will not only attend the FIFA World Cup Finals 2026 in a personal capacity, but you will also serve as an ambassador for local football and the country at large,” he said.
Mr. Ndwandwe expressed gratitude to FIFA, the EFA, and the PLE for the opportunity and pledged to share the knowledge gained with other local football clubs.
“I humbly extend my sincere gratitude to FIFA, EFA, and PLE for this lifetime opportunity and the valuable knowledge shared during the programme. At Ubombo Sugar F.C., we believe in teamwork; therefore, we are more than willing to share our knowledge with other football clubs, particularly in the development of strategic plans and other areas. I developed a comprehensive 48-page strategic plan that will be implemented by the club. As a disciplined and professional individual, I promise to represent the country very well,” said Ndwandwe.
FIFA will communicate further logistics regarding the trip to both the EFA and Mr. Gcina Ndwandwe in due course.
