LEOPARDS DOMINATE RES SIYAKHA ONE-DAY TOURNAMENT
Royal Leopard Development teams dominate the RES Siyakha 1800 One-Day tournament held at Simunye on Saturday.
The police junior sides, were crowned champions in both the Under 15 and 17 categories respectivel; while the Under 13 team ended up as runners-up in their age category. They proved to be a well-prepared team as they won most of their matches with comfortable scorelines, scoring avalanche of goals in the process.
Simunye Zone Juniors, who were crowned champions of the under 13 category seemed, to have been the only team to challenge the visiting Leopard side. In all the other categories, the Simunye side were runners-up to eventual champions, Leopard in what was an interesting battle.
The games were watched by hordes of football lovers including the sponsors, RES representatives as well as Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) newly elected Executive Committee Members.
FRUITS OF THE PROGRAMME ARE TANGIBLE – LRFA’S BARNS
Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) Executive Committee Member Sifiso ‘Barnes’ Dlamini believes that the impact of the RES Siyakha programme is evident for everyone to see.
Reached for comment, after the completion of the RES Siyakha 1800 One-Day tournament held at Simunye on Saturday, Dlamini highlighted that games were a success as the players got ample time to play and demonstrate their ability to cope in pressure games. “What I can say is that the games were a huge success even though we finished very late. It was more like TDS for Siyakha and the presence of Royal Leopard F.C.’s who brought their U13, U15 and U17s helped us as the players learnt a lot from them. We believe that we gained the necessary exposure” Dlamini said briefly.
Royal Leopard F.C.’s development teams were led by the club’s former player, Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo who also got the opportunity to advice the upcoming players on the hazards of drugs and social ills that can adversely affect a football player.
