FIGUAREIDO’S BRACE SALVAGE A POINT FOR SIHLANGU
Sihlangu SeMnikati played a 2 all draw against Angola at Somhlolo National Stadium on match number 9 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, which was the national team’s first match on that turf after seven years. It not an easy match as anticipated by captain Lindo Mkhonta during the pre-match press conference.
They indeed lived up to their promises as they played a great first half, creating great chances; and preventing Angola from scoring. The great first half performance resulted in the first half ending with no goal scored by both teams. The second half with the Acting Head Coach Sfiso Ntibane making three changes further upped Eswatini’s fighting spirit as exactly four minutes after the start of the second half, Justice Figareido chipped the ball over the keeper and 10 minutes later he completed his brace after outpacing the Angolan defense and scored double Eswatini’s led to complete his brace.
Angola made some tactical changes that fueled their attack towards the Eswatini goal as they reduced the deficit by one goal in the 78th minutes after Eswatini defense failed to implement an offside trap. Three minutes later Angola equalized from a corner kick after Eswatini defense was caught ball watching. Eswatini almost scored a third goal unfortunately Muzi Tsabedze. The referee blew the final whistle with the score line at 2-2.
Eswatini Interim Head Coach Sifiso Ntibane described the results as “painful” after the opponents came back from a two-goal deficit. Eswatini will play the last match of the qualifiers against Cabo Verde away on Monday.
