EFA LAUNCHES GRANNIES FOOTBALL IN ESWATINI

The Eswatini Football Association (EFA), in partnership with the Mama Beka Ntsanwisi Foundation, officially launched Grannies Football in Eswatini for the first time on Friday, 6 November 2026, at Sigwaca House.

Six teams will participate in friendly matches on Saturday, 7 November 2026, as part of preparations for the Grannies International Football Tournament scheduled to take place in Polokwane, South Africa, from 26 to 29 June 2027.

Mama Beka Ntsanwisi, founder of the Mama Beka Ntsanwisi Foundation, shared the inspiring story behind the movement, which began in 2007 after doctors advised her to exercise following her battle with colon cancer. She highlighted the remarkable growth of the initiative over the years, with teams from different countries now joining the movement.

“Football has changed our lives. We play, we sing, we dance, and we go home and sleep well. I am proud that Eswatini is now joining us,” said Mama Beka.

EFA General Secretary, Mr Frederick Mngomezulu, welcomed the visiting teams and officially declared the tournament open.

“Football has no demographic divide. There are no limits in football. This programme is a true testimony to the power of the game to impact society and inspire people.

“As the Eswatini Football Association, we confirm that the Eswatini women football legends will join this programme and will receive the full support of the Association. Football is not only about the young stars; it is about everyone,” said Mngomezulu.

The EFA will host the participating teams and provide water for all six teams during the friendly matches. The Association has also encouraged members of the public to come out and support the matches.

The introduction of Grannies Football in Eswatini marks an important milestone for the development and promotion of women’s football and social inclusion through sport. The presence of the South African Soccer Grannies further strengthens the partnership between the Mama Beka Ntsanwisi Foundation and the Eswatini Football Association as preparations begin for the 2027 Grannies International Football Tournament.
