EFA EMPOWERS REFEREES WITH NEW COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
In a significant move to modernize football officiating in the Kingdom, the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) officially presented two new communication systems to the Referees Committee at the Lobamba Technical Centre on Friday.
EFA President Peter Simelane, who presided over the handover, emphasized the importance of aligning local football with global technological trends. He noted that the new equipment is designed to enhance on-field coordination and reduce officiating disputes.
“We recognize the need to continually raise the standard of refereeing,” Simelane stated. “Implementing these gadgets is a standard international practice that ensures seamless, efficient communication among match officials.”
The President confirmed that the systems will be debuted during the upcoming SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup semi-finals. While the technology will initially be rolled out at two primary venues, there are plans to equip additional stadiums in the future, following the successful introduction of camera devices in recent years. “Our goal is to continue this momentum, and we hope to present even more advanced equipment next year,” he added.
Accepting these communication systems, Referees Committee Chairperson Sicelo Nene expressed his gratitude, noting that the tools would complement ongoing efforts—such as specialized training—to improve elite-level officiating.
“We are grateful for this development and commit to ensuring these systems are well-maintained,” Nene said. “This is a vital step in our ongoing mission to elevate the quality of refereeing at the elite level.”
