EFA BOOSTS WOMEN’S FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT WITH 70 SOCCER BALLS
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA), through its Women’s Football Development Campaign, has donated 70 soccer balls to support the 12 teams competing in the EFA Women’s Football League, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening women’s football and expanding development opportunities for female players across the country.
The donation is aimed at enhancing training sessions, improving team preparations and ensuring that clubs have access to quality equipment that meets the required standards for football development and competition.
Each of the 12 teams received two Size 5 balls and three Size 4 balls, while an additional 10 balls were allocated to the Women’s Football Association for use during competitions. The provision of Size 4 balls will also support the development of junior girls’ teams within the clubs, strengthening the foundation for future women’s football talent.
Speaking during the handover, EFA General Secretary Mr Frederick Mngomezulu reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to developing women’s football at all levels.
“These soccer balls are FIFA-approved, ensuring that the standard of equipment used in our competitions remains high. We hope the clubs will take good care of them and use them effectively to improve their training and preparations,” Mngomezulu said.
He added that the donation forms part of the EFA’s broader strategy to develop women’s football through investment in players, coaches and match officials.
“There is much more we are looking at in terms of developing women’s football. We continue to train coaches, and we are also working on opportunities to train young girls in refereeing. Our goal is to develop all women’s national teams, from junior to senior level, so that they can compete successfully on the international stage,” he said.
Women’s Football Association Chairman Mr Bonginkosi Mhlanga welcomed the donation, describing it as timely support for clubs as the league season gets underway.
“These soccer balls will play a significant role in developing our players’ talent. We do not just see soccer balls; we see opportunity, improvement and a bright future for women’s football. They have come at the right time as the season has just started. We promise to take good care of them and put them to good use,” Mhlanga said.
The donation reflects the EFA’s continued investment in women’s football through initiatives designed to strengthen club structures, nurture young talent and create opportunities for female players, coaches and match officials to progress.
Through the Women’s Football Development Campaign, the Association remains committed to building a stronger and more competitive women’s football landscape in Eswatini, with a clear pathway from grassroots participation to the international stage.
