SITSEBE SAMHLEKAZI HOLD BOTSWANA TO 1-1 DRAW
Eswatini’s Senior Women’s National Team (Sitsebe SaMhlekazi) earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Botswana’s “The Mares” today, Sunday, 22 February 2026, at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.
The match began with high intensity, as Eswatini’s Neliswa Ngcamphalala narrowly missed a golden scoring opportunity in the opening minutes. Despite creating several chances, Sitsebe struggled to find the back of the net early on. Botswana took advantage of this in the 23rd minute when Nolofatso Mamela opened the scoring. Eswatini responded with determination, and Nonjabuliso Mokgale successfully leveled the score in the 38th minute, leaving the teams deadlocked at halftime.
Both sides pushed aggressively for a winner in the second half, showing immense dedication to securing maximum points. However, neither team could break the stalemate before the final whistle.
Eswatini Head Coach Bongani Makhukhula expressed mixed emotions regarding the result. “We hoped for maximum points, and the result today is not exactly what we expected as we missed several scoring chances,” Makhukhula stated. He did, however, praise the performance of Captain Simangele Sikhondze, who was rewarded with the Player of the Match award for her outstanding defensive performance.
Eswatini will face Zambia in their final Group B fixture on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at the Seshego Stadium, with kick-off set for 12:00 pm.
