VIDEO COVERAGE FOR REFEREES IN THE 2024/2025 SEASON

As an effort of enhancing the development of referees, the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will introduce some video coverage for referees as from the 2024/2025 football season. This was disclosed by the EFA Vice President Steve Horton who was representing the EFA President Peter Simelane during the closing ceremony of the FIFA MA Refereeing Course held on Friday, 9th August 2024 at the EFA’s Technical Centre in Lobamba.

“As an additional development in refereeing, the association is looking at gradually introducing some video coverage, into our matches related to the assessment of referees, to help them continually improve, a project, which is planned to commence in this 2024/2025 football season”, Horton said.

He also stated that the EFA is always trying to assist the referees in upscaling their performance. “We always try to do our best to assist our referees, to upscale their performances locally and internationally,” Horton said.

The Vice President reminded the referees about their significant role in the improvement of the standard of football. “Let me remind our referees on the centrality of their role in assisting to improve the practice of the game of football,” Horton said.

After the conclusion of this course, the referees are now ready to hit the football field to officiate in the matches of the upcoming season. As a consequence of the successful completion of this course, the EFA expressed her sincere appreciation to the FIFA experts, for the successful conclusion of the course; and they also thanked EFA for hosting this course as they urged the referees to continue training and learning.
