SIHLANGU HEAD COACH LAMENT LOSS ON POOR DECISION MAKING
Eswatini suffered a third consecutive loss in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Luanda at the expense of Angola. This was after Eswatini failed to cancel an early lead by Angola who scored the only goal of the match via the header of Mabululu following an immaculate cross from the left flank. Mabululu rose high under pressure from Mzwandile Mabelesa to head the ball in an empty net after Sibusiso Dlamini in goal for Eswatini misjudged the cross in anticipation that Mabululu will not be able to rise high and head the ball.
When responding to the media during the post-match press conference, Sihlangu SeMnikati head coach Dominic Kunene lamented the loss on poor decision making by Eswatini players on the opposition 18 area’s box. “We conceded in the crucial moment of the match, and the poor decision making by our players on the 18 area of the opponents costed us the match”, Kunene said.
He highlighted that as an overall analysis, he is happy with the player’s performance as the were more positives than negatives. “I am happy on how the players absorbed the pressure and created the scoring opportunities. The were more positives than negatives by the players”, Kunene said.
Pertaining the future of Eswatini in the competition, the head coach believes there is still a chance for Sihlangu seMnikati to progress. “We still have a chance of qualifying. The team is growing and we have to work extra hard,” Kunene said.
Eswatini will play the next match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on the 11th June 2024 against Mauritius.
