RHINOS F.C. CROWNED THE BUILD IT SIPHOFANENI U13 CHAMPIONS

The Build It Siphofaneni U13 Tournament, held on Saturday at the Siphofaneni Sport Ground, proved to be an exciting showcase of grassroots football talent. Despite a chilly and rainy start, the weather later cleared before the kick-off which was a perfect weather for playing football. A vibrant morning parade from the Build It Siphofaneni Store was to the match day pitch was executed as a final effort of raising awareness about this tournament to the populace of Siphofaneni.

Eight (8) U13 football teams competed fiercely through the group stages with the top two teams from each of the two groups qualifying for the semi-finals. One of the highlights came when Juventus and All Nasri played to a tense 0 – 0 draw, forcing penalties where All Nasri edged through with just one miss out of five. In the final, Rhinos FC dominated with a commanding 4 – 0 victory over All Nasri, earning them the championship. The championship prizes included a goat worth E2 200 trophy, Build it branded bags and bibs, and gold medals.

Football legends who attended this tournament included former Senior National Team, Kaizer Chiefs F.C., Orlando Pirates F.C. and Moroka Swallows F.C. goalkeeper William “Cool Cat” Shongwe; Tony “TT” Tsabedze (former Super Sport F.C., Santos and Mbabane Swallows F.C.); Wonder “Samba” Nhleko (former Black Leopard F.C., and Mbabane Swallows F.C.); and current national team and Royal Leopard players who are also sons of Siphofaneni, Felix Badenhorst and Gift Gamedze.

The individual prizes for this tournament were as follows:

  • William “Cool Cat” Shongwe Award (Bicycle worth E1 700 : Migal Damara (Juventus F.C.)
  • Top Goal scorer (Soccer ball) : Majahonkhe  Matsenjwa (Rhinos)
  • Best Goal keeper (Soccer ball) : Nkosephayo Simelane (Rhinos F.C.)
  • Best Defender (Soccer Ball : Amanda Magagula (Rhinos F.C.)
  • Best Midfielders (Soccer ball) : Basanda Mabuyakhula (Rhinos F.C.)
