
ESWATINI HOLD MADAGASCAR IN THE HOOLYWOODBETS COSAFA 2025
Eswatini avoided defeat against Madagascar in the Hollywoodbets COSAFA 2025 match that was played on Monday afternoon at the Petrus Molamela Stadium in Bloemfontein. Madagascar started this match with three points as they were looking for maximum points against Eswatini to guarantee a place in the semi-finals of this tournament.
With Eswatini also aiming for the maximum points; this was going to be a tricky match for both camps. Eswatini created better scoring chances in the first half as in the 5th minute a corner kick by Philani Mkhontfo was headed wide by the towering Gift Gamedze in the 5th minute.
In the 30th minute, Mayibongwe Mabuza’s thunderous shot was ruled off-side by VAR as Ramandimbusoa in goal for Madagascar could not provide any save. Kwakhe Thwala domince was well felt by the Malagasy and was well noted by the COSAFA Teachnical Study group as he was chosen to be the man of the match. In the 30th minute, he had wonderful interchange of passes with Banele Sikhondze only for Kwakhe’s shot to be saved by Ramandimbisoa.
As Eswatini continued to apply more pressure to Madagascar, Sihlangu’s defence was caught out of position in the 40th minute as Fenohasina’s hard shot found the bach of the net. Eswatini tried to cancel the lead of the Malagasy as Kwakhe’s humdinger of a shot struck the cross bar with Ramandimbisoa well beaten in the 43rd minute. The referee from Malawi sent both teams to the dressing room for half time with the Malagasy national team leading by 1-0.
In the beginning of the 2nd half, Eswatini opted for more experience as they introduced Sabelo Ndzinisa and Felix Badenhorst for Mayibongwe Mabuza and Simanga Masangane. Madagascar tried to protect their lead; however, Eswatini’s patient builds ups did pay-off as Philani Mkhontfo was fouled outside the box and Eswatini got a free kick. The educated right foot of Junior Magagula found the back of the net which bought a lot of relief for Eswatini in the 66th minute. Eswatini tried to search for the winner as more offensive players were introduced. Sambulo Simelane, and Alakhe Mdluli were introduced as an effort of enhancing the attacking options. Eswatini goalkeeper, Bongiswa Dlamini was called to action in the dying minutes of the match as he made a vital save in what could be a costly defeat for Eswatini a place in the semi-finals for Madagascar as the Malagasy technical bench’s celebration mode was already activated.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw with both Madagascar and Eswatini still having the chance of making it to the semi-finals. Eswatini will play the last match of Group C against Tanzania which will confirm the final status of this group.
