EFA COMMISSION YOUTH SQUADS TO LEAVE A MARK IN THE COSAFA YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has commissioned the Men’s U17 and Women’s U17 National Teams to leave a mark in the COSAFA Youth Championship that will be played in Johannesburg, South Africa as from the 4th – 13th December 2024. Eswatini is in Group B together with Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Zambia.
When sending the national team off to South Africa, the EFA President Peter Simelane tasked both squads to play until the last day of the tournaments. “Go and play well. As the President of the EFA, I want to watch you in the finals and by doing so; you will make the country proud,” Simelane said. He also told the Men’s U17 National Team that for them, this tournament is also the TotalEnergies AFCON Qualifier which is an extra motivation, “For the Men’s U17 National Team, this tournament is also the TotalEnergies AFCON Qualifier; and they must also aim for qualification which can be a milestone for Eswatini”, Simelane said.
Coaches
The Head Coach of the Men’s U17 National Team, Sindiso Gama stated that even though the preparations were challenging due to the compressed programme; their aim is to qualify. “We had a challenging preparation due to the compressed programme; however, we aim to qualify for the TotalEnergies AFCON Finals,” Gama said.
The head coach for the Women’s U17 National Team Sonnyboy Nkomo acknowledged the football stakeholders for the support during the preparations and hoped the national team will do well in the tournament. “We thank the football stakeholders for the support; and we hope we will do well in the tournament,” Nkomo said.
Captains
Calvin Maseko, the Men’s U17 National Team captain expressed their hunger in making the country proud. “” We are prepared for the tournament; and we want to make the country proud,” Maseko said.
April Butler, the Women’s U17 National Team captain promised the nation that they will do their best during the tournament. “We will do our level best in getting positive results during the competition.
