
THE 2025 BUILD IT U13 FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME KICKS-OFF IN STYLE AT EFA’S KALANGA TECHNICAL CENTRE
The EFA’s KaLanga Technical Centre came alive on Saturday as the Lubombo Region as it hosted the first Build It Under-13 Tournament for 2025.
The Atmosphere was electric, with eight youth teams battling it out in a one-day football spectacle. After an action-packed day, it was Koria FC who emerged as champions, defeating Mkhutjana FC 3-1 in a high intense final.
Mkhutjana FC had dominated the group stages and semi- finals with a perfect record and were favorites heading into the final. Koria F.C., who had drawn one match against Raising Stars FC in the group stages showed immense composure and tactical brilliance in the final to clinch the 2025 Build It U13 Siteki Trophy. In addition to gold medals and the prestigious trophy, the winning team was also awarded branded Build It bags, a proud moment for the young boys’ success.
A standout moment of the tournament was the performance a young girl by the name of Asemahle from Mkhutjana FC. She was the only girl child who played in the tournament. She scored two goals across three group matches, underlining the growing importance of women’s participation in grassroots football. Her contribution was celebrated as a significant step forward for women’s football in the Lubombo Region, reflecting commitment of the Lubombo Regional Football Association who are one of the members of the EFA to gender inclusivity in football.
Fisokuhle Tsabedze from Koria FC was named player of the tournament. Playing as a midfielder, Tsabedze impressed everyone who was at the stadium with his mature decision making, exceptional ball control, and vision beyond his years. Among the dignitaries present were EFA Technical Director Bhekisisa Mkhonta, Lubombo Regional FA Chairperson Nicodemus Mashwama, and the EFA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu amongst others.
In his remarks during the prize giving ceremony, the EFA’s CEO expressed the football association’s gratitude to build it for its continued support to football development. He further extended a heartfelt appreciation to the coaches and teams who prepared the players so well for the competition. Also, in attendance was Build It Siteki Store Manager, who commended all the teams for their discipline and passion; promising continued collaboration in developing football at grassroots level in the Lubombo Region.
