ESWATINI GETS MAXIMUM POINTS AGAINST MOZAMBIQUE

It was a positive start for Eswatini in the on-going TotalEnergies AFCON | COSAFA Qualifiers in a Group A match. This victory put Eswatini at the summit of the log after Zimbabwe and Botswana played to a 1-1 draw. Mozambique was the first team to draw blood in the 20th minute through Kelves.

Eswatini cancelled Mozambique’s lead in the 37th minute through Phiwayinkhosi Dube. Two minutes later, Alakhe Mdluli scored Eswatini’s second goal in the 39th minute to make the scoreline 1-2 in favour of Eswatini.

Malwande Gwebu gave Eswatini a two goals advantage in the 47th minutes to make the score-line 1-3 with Eswatini in the lead. Alakhe Mdluli netted his second goal of the game in the 53rd minute to make the score-line 1-4.

Mozambique reduced the deficit by scoring their second goal which was netted by Jose in the 59th minute. The Mozambicans applied more pressure to the Eswatini defence and they were rewarded with a goal scored by Kelves in the 62nd minute to make the score-line to be 3-4. Alakhe who was the man of the match completed his hattrick in the 78th minute to score Eswatini’s 5th goal. Just when everyone was settling for a 3-5 score-line, Andile Awu conceded a soft gol that was scored by Kelves in the referees added time. He later blew his final whistle with the score-line at 4-5 in favour of Eswatini.

The national team will play against Zimbabwe on Sunday at 12 noon, whilst Mozambique will play against Botswana.
