The National Football Association of Swaziland’s (NFAS) President, Senator Adam Mthethwa has urged Young Buffaloes FC to turn the tables in Cape Town when the play against Cape Town City FC on Tuesday in the TOTAL CAF Confederation Cup second leg matches. Currently, the South African side has an advantage over the local team as they won the first leg encounter by a solitary goal. Inorder for Young Buffaloes to progress, they have to win the match by at least 2-1 as they can progress by the away goal rule.
“As a person, you want to achieve in life and nothing is impossible, which is the same scenario with Young Buffaloes FC. I am sure that each one of you wants to make history for the country and this is a perfect opportunity to do so”, said the President of the NFAS. He also reminded the team that by bidding them farewell, they must know that they have received the blessings from the elders of the country of which they won’t be by themselves as they travel to Cape Town.
The 2018 Swazi Bank Cup was officially launched at Esibayeni Lodge on Thursday, 15th February 2018. This marks the beginning of business for this knock-out competition that is sponsored by the bank with a heart. This year’s sponsorship is worth E2.6 Million which includes a E75 000.00 sponsorship towards the Swazi Bank Women’s Cup.
Present during this occasion was the National Football Association of Swaziland’s (NFAS) President, Senator Adam Mthethwa, Managing Director (MD) of Swazi Bank; Mr. Zakhele Lukhele, Football and Swazi Bank’s Families just to mention but a few. This year’s grand opening is scheduled for Sunday, 25th February 2018. This football competition comes with a number of prizes for the football clubs, players, match officials, fans and the media.
The 2018 Swazi Bank Cup is the 15th edition and the slogan is “Uyayifuna na?” This means, do you really wants it? This slogan came from Ncamiso Dlamini who is a student at St. Mary’s High School who won himself E2 000.00. The Champions of this competition will get E1Million plus a ticket to the TOTAL CAF Confederation Cup.

Once again, Swazi Bank has showed her big heart to football and the nation at large by empowering women in the country through football. This good news was communicated by the Managing Director (MD) of Swazi Bank, Mr. Zakhele Lukhele during the launch of the 2018 Swazi Bank Cup at Esibayeni Lodge. “This year’s edition will include women’s football a way of developing football in the country in all sectors as we also have the U20 competition”, said the MD. The bank with a heart had sponsored the Swazi Bank Women’s Cup with a sponsorship of E75 000.00.

The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS), Executive Committee and Senior National Team Coach, Mr. Pieter Hendrikus De John have mutually decided to terminate the Coach’s contract; which was due to elapse on the 31st March 2018.
In view of this mutual termination; the current Assistant to the Head Coach, Mr. Anthony Mdluli has been appointed as an Interim Head Coach. Further details on the full complement of the national team technical staff and management will be released in due course.
The Swazi Bank, the bank with a heart; extended its warm heart to Young Buffaloes FC as it donated E50 000.00 cash plus material items which includes a soccer kit, bags and t-shirts amongst other things. The total support is worth E100 000.00.
This happened at the bank's auditorium in Mbabane, in the presence of the Honourable Minister David Ngcamphalala who is the Minister of Sports, Culture & Youth Affairs; President of the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS), Senator Adam Mthethwa; Swazi Bank Managing Director, Mr Zakhele Lukhele and the CEO of the NFAS, Mr Frederick Mngomezulu. Doing the honours on behalf of the bank was its MD. “The bank is donating to Young Buffaloes E50 000.00, football kit, bags and t-shirts amongst other items; which makes the support to be worth E100 000.00.
Young Buffaloes is due to play against Cape Town City on Saturday, 10th February 2018 at the Somhlolo National Stadium and kick-off is at 1600hrs.

“The NFAS trust that Young Buffaloes FC will do well in the competition”, he said. The President of the NFAS also highlighted that the support by Swazi Bank motivates everyone to rally behind this team as it begins its campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup. He also stated that the NFAS will support the team as its success has a positive effect to the national team as the players get the much-needed international exposure for national team football.
The Minister of Sports, Culture & Youth Affairs; Honourable Minister David Ngcamphalala has urged the nation to support Mbabane Swallows FC and Young Buffaloes FC in their quest to conquer Africa in the TOTAL Champions League and Confederations Cup competitions respectively. “On behalf of His Majesty’s Government, I urge the nation to support both teams as they are representing the country”, he said.
The Honourable Minister also acknowledged Swazi Bank for supporting football over the years and also encouraged the nation to also do likewise to the bank by opening bank accounts.
The NEDBANK has done it yet again in as far as empowering local football clubs who represents the country in the TOTAL CAF Champions League is concerned. This bank has sponsored local football clubs participating in this competition for the past 10 years. This year’s beneficiaries is Mbabane Swallows FC which received a sponsorship worth E180 000.00. The sponsorship includes a soccer kit and boots just to mention a few. Present during this sponsorship presentation event which took place at the Mountain Inn in Mbabane were the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Honourable Minister David Ngcamphalala; NFAS Vice President and Acting President, Dr. Comfort Shongwe, Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Executive Member, Sicelo Mkhonta and NEDBANK Managing Director (MD) , Ms Fikile Nkosi just to mention a few.
When addressing the audience, the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs acknowledged the bank for this kind gesture as it will motivate Mbabane Swallows FC in the competition. “On behalf of His Majesty’s Government, I would like to acknowledge NEDBANK for this sponsorship as it will motivate the players”, he said. The Honourable Minister also acknowledged Mbabane Swallows FC’s performance in last year’s CAF Confederations Cup competition as it enhanced the country’s confidence. He also challenged the bank to stay in football as its is the best vehicle to market any product. Finally, he urged the team to carry on with the late Director’s vision as he always wanted the best for the Mbabane Swallows and football in general.
The NFAS through the Vice President acknowledged NEDBANK for the sponsorship and also highlighted to the bank that it can market its products using numerous football products. “Thank you NEDBANK for your support and football has a lot of products that you can use in marketing your products”, he said. The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) through its Executive Member, Sicelo Mkhonta also acknowledged the bank for the sponsorship and urged other banks in the country to also sponsor football. Mbabane Swallows FC Through the General Manager, Sandile Zwane; acknowledged the support that the y got from the bank as it will go a very long way in as far as the team is concerned.
The sponsor’s MD thanked football for this partnership over the years, and also encouraged Mbabane Swallows FC to continue working hard more especially as it was their culture during their late Director’s leadership. “Success is through hard work not luck”, she said.
Mbabane Swallows FC’s midfielder, Banele “Pupu” Sikhondze and Tinyosi FC’s striker are the best players for December in the MTN Premier League and National 1st Division respectively. For his effort, the Mbabane Swallows FC gifted player was presented with a E5 000 cheque by the elite league sponsor whilst the Tinyosi FC striker got a cheque of E 1500. This is a third Mbabane Swallows FC player to win this award in the 2017/18 football season, which is a sign of consistency to the football club. The pevious winners were Sanele Mkhweli and Sandile Hlatjwako.
Speaking on behalf of the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) was the Chief Operations Officer (COO), Mr. Petros Vilakati who acknowledged the sponsor for incentivising the players as it motivates them to put more effort. “As PLS we would like to acknowledge MTN for such initiatives as they motivate the players “, he said. The MTN Swaziland Brand and sponsorships Manager, Mr. Meshack Maseko congratulated the players for their achievements and highlighted that this is part of the late PLS Chairman, Mr. Victor Gamedze’s vision to uplift the lives of the players through such incentives. “Such incentives are the late PLS’s Chairman’s vision to improve the lives of players”, he said. He also encouraged other players to work hard in order to be the next winners. Banele Sikhondze expressed his delight for this award and also thanked his colleagues for the support. “I am delighted about this award and I also thank my teammates for their support as football is a team sport”, said the player whose teammates also call to him as FIFA due to his football artistry. Maswazi Dlamini thanked the Tinyosi FC family for the support. “I would like to thank the Tinyosi FC family for the support”, he said. Both players promised to continue doing the good work in the field of play.
The sporting fraternity through the Honourable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs has expressed words of condolences and sympathy to His Majesty The King Mswati III, Her Majesty The Indlovukazi, Royal Household, His Majesty’s Government, Gamedze Family, Football Family, Football Stakeholders, Business Community and the Nation at large on the demise of Mr. Victor Gamedze who was a seasoned football administrator and a successful businessman.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister highlighted that what happened was unbelievable to the nation at large as the Swazi Nation was not used to such. “As Swazis, we have never seen such”, he said. During this press conference which was held at the NFAS Headquarters at the Sigwaca House in Mbabane , the Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Dumisani Ndlangamandla, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs, Prince Mlayeto; President of the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS), Senator Adam Mthethwa, his vice Mr. Peter Simelane and PLS's Peter Magagula just to mention a few. He described Mr. Victor Gamedze as an experienced and successful football administrator and businessman as his effort attest to that. “He was an experienced and successful football administrator and businessman as his efforts qualifies that”, the Minister said.
